Made to Measure: Body and Space (first two and final three years)

"Abitare lo spazio" by Luciano Fabro

Focus areas

A cross-curricular activity that can cut across various subjects including art history, physical education, Italian, philosophy, and astronomy.

Activities

The session offers an interpretation of Luciano Fabro’s work that looks at the concept of “inhabiting space” as a dynamic place of action. The students will try to find out how the artist redefines the relationships between sculpture, architecture and the environment, and how the visitor’s eyes, movement and physical experience actively shape their perception of the work of art.

In the first part of the session, using key words and images, as well as brief focused activities in the exhibition hall, the class will explore the show in independent groups. They will then come together and exchange ideas among themselves on what they have seen and experienced.

For students in the first two years of secondary school, the session prioritises personal exploration, comparisons with art history imagery, engagement with Fabro’s visual language and wit, and his fascination with cosmology.

For students in the final three years of secondary school, the session will also introduce philosophical concepts relating to dialectics, perception and ethics, building up a more cross-disciplinary interpretation of the works.
