Mind over Object
"XYZ" di Aki Sasamoto
Focus areas
• Italian
• Art and image
Activities
During their tour of the exhibition, the students will examine how Aki Sasamoto draws on mathematics, physics, and everyday objects and actions to create surprising associations and reflect on the world with wit. Close observation of her artworks will encourage the students to think about different points of view, classification systems, and the relationships between shapes, behaviours, and meanings.
During the workshop session, the class will create a whimsical encyclopaedia of unusual objects. Starting from images associated with letters of the alphabet, each participant will transform the objects they see and write new definitions for them in the style of a dictionary or encyclopaedia. Their individual contributions will then be brought together into a unique collective work.
