The installation featured in Rirkrit Tiravanija’s exhibition “The House That Jack Built” is a rehearsal studio equipped with musical instruments, amplifiers, and recording devices, available for musicians and visitors to practice and improvise.

Every day of the exhibition you can join jam sessions, practice, record, and play.

  • 1 Mapex Pro M drum set, complete with cymbals
  • 2 electric guitars (1 Squier Bullet Stratocaster, 1 Gibson Les Paul)
  • 1 Cort G series bass
  • 1 Yamaha P-200 keyboard
  • 1 Ampeg B2 bass amplifier
  • 3 Shure SM58 vocal microphones
  • 1 BOSS Distortion Pedal DS-1
  • 1 BOSS Digital Delay pedal DD-8
  • 2 Fender Twin Reverb Amps
  • 1 Yamaha 16 channels Mixer
  • 1 standard microphone set for drums and amplifiers
  • 2 audio monitors for vocals and keyboard
  • Option to record your performance using 2 XLR cables by bringing your own recorder

If you wish, you may also bring your own instruments.

 

About the work
In his works, Tiravanija often creates situations in which people meet and interact with each other. untitled 1996 (rehearsal studio no. 6, open version) is a replica of the New York rehearsal studio in which the artist occasionally jammed with friends.

All demos recorded in the rehearsal studio will be permanently archived as part of untitled 1996 (rehearsal studio no. 6, open version). The recording will remain your intellectual property and will not be sold or otherwise distributed. You can also choose to play music without a recording.
