Pirelli HangarBicocca has collaborated with Pirelli to create the trophy for the F1 Italian Grand Prix Monza 2023, by entrusting its concept and implementation to the artist Ruth Beraha.
Enjoy the making of the the interview with Ruth Beraha through our “Bubbles”!

The vibrant and dynamic trophy by Ruth Beraha draws inspiration from the mechanical components of the car – and in particular from the exhaust system – in the form of Typhon, a creature from Greek mythology, which gives the trophy its name. The son of Gaia and the father of some of the most famous mythological monsters, Typhon is a creature of extraordinary strength with a hundred snakes on its head, and the personification of nature’s most violent manifestations.
The compressed energy of Tifone seems poised to reawaken at any time, thus evoking the transient and ultimately illusory nature of triumph.

The trophy is the outcome of a production process which combines hi-tech robotic processes such as 3-D design and cutting, with the craftsmanship of artisans specialized in welding, polishing, assembly and gilding – an intricate fusion of artistry and goldsmithing.

Ruth Beraha’s artistic research explores the vulnerability and violence of relationships, and our perception of the self and the other. Her work has been shown at MAXXI in Rome, GAMeC in Bergamo, MACRO in Rome, TRAFO in Szczecin, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Mimosa House in London, MUFOCO in Cinisello Balsamo, Museo della Città in Livorno, Arte in Memoria Biennale d’Arte Contemporanea in Rome, MAMbo in Bologna, Museo Ca’ Rezzonico in Venice, and at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan. In 2023 she won the Premio Conai, and in 2022 she was awarded the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. In 2020 she won the Premio New York and was an Associate Research Scholar at Columbia University, New York (2020-2). She was artist in residence at ISCP, Brooklyn, New York (2020-2), at Nuovo Forno del Pane, MAMbo, Bologna (2020-1), and at Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation, Venice (2017-18).
