Let’s embark on a creative journey to create our very own living gear. We’ll create costumes using different shapes and colours, and a variety of recycled materials. Through theatre exercises, we will then try out ways to make our bodies move and resonate. Like on an assembly line, the various pieces will come together to form a single huge body-machine made of voices, sounds, shapes, and colours. Each cog will thus be vital to keep our device running. FAMILY LAB | Look, Learn and… Invent! (7-10 years)

An exciting adventure in a world of sounds, lights and colours in search of the elements that make up the great kinetic works of the artist Jean Tinguely. For each solved problem, the adults and children will receive the materials they need to invent something new, unique, bright—and mobile!

From Gears to Movement (7-10 years)

How do you make a mechanical sculpture and how does it work? What can it do? Come and explore Jean Tinguely’s moving artworks, and have fun yourself using gears and mechanisms to make your very own playful, animated robots. And with the Pirelli HangarBicocca arts tutors, you can give your creations funny looks.

FAMILY LAB | Yes, you can play with sculptures! (5-8 years)

The wheels and mechanisms in Jean Tinguely’s creations hold hidden treasures: objects and toys that, like gears, form part of the most amazing, whimsical machines! Join the arts tutors and have fun finding them all, and then turn them into brand-new moving toys.

Viva Jean Tinguely! (8-12 years)

An exciting adventure in search of sounds, lights and colours, exploring the components that make up the amazing kinetic works created by the artist Jean Tinguely. Join Pirelli HangarBicocca’s arts tutors and have fun solving a whole series of riddles, questions and timed challenges!

Turning Wheels (6-10 years)

Great big colourful wheels turn along with colanders, shark bones, garden gnomes and much more besides. Come and see the huge mechanical installations by the artist Jean Tinguely and unleash your creativity as you have fun making your own sculpture of shapes and colours. And bring it to life with simple mechanisms, lights, sounds, and boundless imagination.

FAMILY LAB | Fantasy in Motion (6-10 years)

This is a great opportunity for both young and old to plunge into the world of the artist Jean Tinguely and explore his works as they light up and move and make noises. Together with the Pirelli HangarBicocca arts tutors, we’ll have fun creating animated machines and bringing to life colourful characters made by fitting together mechanisms and gears…

On the Move (5-6 years)

Come into the exciting world of sound and movement created by the machines, objects, lights, and gears of the kinetic sculptures made by the great artist Jean Tinguely. Together, we’ll explore all the different ways we can move our bodies to the rhythm of a whole range of surprising sounds, melodies, and noises.

Landscapes and Dreams (6-10 years)

According to a Central Asian tradition, dreams are shared with the waters of rivers: immerse yourself in Saodat Ismailova’s artworks and discover how she transformed this ancient custom into films, sculptures and installations. Have fun with Pirelli HangarBicocca’s Arts Tutors creating new landscapes which combine the world of dreams with the world of nature!

Rivers, forests, caves, skies and mountains of Central Asia are just some of the wonders of nature you will see among the works of artist Saodat Ismailova who, experimenting with films, sculptures and installations, tells stories and legends about landscapes in constant transformation. FAMILY LAB | Tell Me a Story! (6-10 anni)

Saodat Ismailova keeps alive the memory of Central Asian traditions and landscapes through storytelling: combining words, images and sounds, she weaves stories about the past to take care of the future. An opportunity for adults and kids to discover legends of faraway places and times and to create new and unique tales!Inspired by the artist’s works, let’s try to unleash imagination and creativity to transform a simple shape into a large book that tells stories hidden among its pages.
