14 September 2023 – 7.00pm
Thao Nguyen Phan in conversation with Jaap Guldemond
The Public Program devoted to Thao Nguyen Phan’s Reincarnations of Shadows exhibition opens on Thursday 14 September 2023 at 7 PM with a conversation between Thao Nguyen Phan and Jaap Guldemond, Director of Exhibitions and Chief Curator at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam.
Starting from the production of the new film work that also gives the title to the exhibition, the conversation explores the artist’s work delving into her dreamlike poetics in which folk traditions and Fairy Tale narratives merge with historical events in her native country.
In addition, the dialogue focuses on her complex relations to moving images: indeed, in all of Thao Nguyen Phan’s works, cinema is present as a source of imagery and inspiration, particularly through references to the research of Southeast Asian experimental filmmakers.
The event is organized by Pirelli HangarBicocca in collaboration with Fondazione In Between Art Film and follows the co-production of the work Reincarnations of Shadows (moving-image-poem), 2023, which gives the exhibition its title.
The conversation was held in English with simultaneous translation.
Free admission upon reservation.
Pirelli HangarBicocca Members are guaranteed admission without a booking by showing their Membership Card at the entrance.
