The eighth tower (final year)

‘The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015’ by Anselm Kiefer

Introduction

The work The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015, created by the German artist Anselm Kiefer, is composed of seven concrete towers, between 14 and 18 metres high: each of them are built with mysterious objects that make it unique and different from all the others. Children will be taken on a discovery tour of Pirelli HangarBicocca’s permanent installation and invited to imagine their own tower, which has a name and a story to tell.

Educational goals
Through the exploration of the work The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015, the children will discover that there are towers that differ in appearance and function. Starting with the telling of the story that inspired the artist Anselm Kiefer, the students will be challenged to create a personal construction, through the conscious use of the various materials made available to them.

Activities
After the guided tour of the exhibition, participants will be shown pictures of famous towers seen in cartoons, fairy tales or around cities. Afterwards, each child will be asked to design and create a personal tower, characterised by materials and colours that make it unique and different from those of their peers.
