Published on the occasion of the retrospective dedicated to Jean Tinguely, this volume offers an in-depth exploration of his artistic practice, highlighting the works featured in the exhibition through entries commissioned from art historians, curators, and scholars, accompanied by a wide selection of historical images. The monograph also includes an essay by art historian Béatrice Joyeux-Prunel, which contextualizes Tinguely’s work within the European and American avant-garde, a contribution by scholar Melissa Warak focusing on the role of sound and performance in Tinguely’s art during the 1960s, an interview with Renzo Piano by curator Lucia Pesapane, and an illustrated chronology of the artist created by Annalisa Rimmaudo.
The publication is further enriched by two historical texts by Jean Tinguely and contributions from the show curators, including an introduction to the exhibition project by Vicente Todolí, a text by Camille Morineau on Tinguely’s practice, and an essay by Lucia Pesapane that highlights the artist’s strong connection with the city of Milan, home to some of his most ambitious projects, such as La Vittoria (1971).
