Gian Maria Tosatti. NOw/here

The monograph “NOw/here” accompanies Gian Maria Tosatti’s solo exhibition at Pirelli HangarBicocca. Through an extensive photographic documentation of the show, the editorial project explores the new large-scale paintings NOw/here (2023) composed of graphite and white charcoal on canvas and the works on iron panels Portraits (2022) made with gold and rust. The two cycles of paintings displayed in the exhibition are narrated through the complementary contributions of the curator Eugenio Viola and the artist Anselm Kiefer, who highlight how painting is a recurring element in Tosatti’s practice, visible in the works prior to the exhibition at Pirelli HangarBicocca. The volume also presents a detailed chronology of selected works, with the aim of delineating the connections between the large-scale environmental installations and recent paintings, underlining key moments in Gian Maria Tosatti artistic journey from 2005 to the present.
