Performing the Frame
18 December 2014 – 9.00pm
A screening curated by Lucia Aspesi
On Thursday, December 18th 2014 at 9 pm HangarBicocca presents Performing the Frame, the fourth event in the HB Public programme devoted to the “Light Time Tales” exhibition by Joan Jonas. Curated by Lucia Aspesi, researcher at HangarBicocca, the video program is inspired by the relationship between moving images and performance in the work of Joan Jonas. Alongside videos by the artist herself, such as Organic Honey’s Vertical Roll e Glass Puzzle, the screening presents works by several artists and experimental film-makers creating an intense interaction between the rhythms of vision and Joan Jonas’s poetic universe.
The feminine figure is the main artistic subject of most of the works, including historical pieces by Babette Mangolte, Maya Deren and David Haxton and recent videos of Trisha Baga. The program revolves around the presentation of bodies and movements described in a fragmented and stylized way whilst the presence of choreography and dance contribute to creating ambiguous and oneiric tales.
