Take Me
(I’m Yours)
14 January 2018 – 11.00am
Generosity/
Generosità
A day of talks, music, and performance on the occasion of the finissage of the exhibition “Take Me (I’m Yours)”
from 11 am to 8 pm
Generosity/Generosità, a special event of the Public Program dedicated to the exhibition “Take Me (I’m Yours),” involves over twenty artists, architects, curators, critics and designers in a conversation accompanied by interludes of performance and music. The theme of the day is generosity, a concept central to the show, which is partly inspired by Lewis Hyde’s book The Gift, a reflection on how artworks and their circulation help preserve this value in today’s society.
Can generosity, even today, offer a key to thinking about the relationship between different generations of artists, as well as between artists and the public? Is the transmission of knowledge, whether through institutionalized channels like schools and academies, or informal ones such as support and dialogue, still a possible approach in art? In a society where everything is “shared” or “free,” does generosity still have meaning? What is the role of exhibition venues and exhibitions in facilitating the circulation of art?
The speakers try to answer these questions and more, while drawing inspiration from the links between “Take Me (I’m Yours)” and the figure of Lucio Fontana—whose exhibition “Ambienti/Environments” is on view at the same time at Pirelli HangarBicocca, and who offered a new point of departure for a whole generation of younger artists.
