Bendik Giske Live

In partnership with the MUNCH Museum in Oslo and with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Rome and OCA (Office For Contemporary Art Norway). In collaboration with Pirelli HangarBicocca.
On Wednesday 20 November at 9.30 PM the space of Anselm Kiefer’s permanent installation The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015 will host a live performance by saxophonist and perfomer Bendik Giske curated by Threes Productions.
Giske’s performance will take place in the evocative setting of Kiefer’s installation. Giske’s musical practice, characterized by intense physicality and a deep emotional connection, will merge with Kiefer’s imposing work, exploring new dimensions of interaction between sound and visual space.

*Bendik Giske’s live performance at Pirelli HangarBicocca is inspired by his contribution to the exhibition ‘Jordsvingninger’, scheduled to take place at MUNCH from April to August 2024. MUNCH and the record label Smalltown Supersound interpret the art of Edvard Munch through curated concerts, commissioned works and the launch of a double vinyl, in which 18 musicians have composed original pieces inspired by the works on display.
BENDIK GISKE
Bendik Giske is a Norwegian saxophonist, known for his ability to transcend the boundaries between musical genres and for his powerful stage presence. Born in Oslo, Giske has developed a unique musical language that combines jazz, electronic music and performance art, resulting in a compelling and innovative sound experience.
On the eve of his third self-titled solo album, Giske is at the peak of his artistic maturity. His mastery of the instrument and his bold exploration of sonic possibilities have earned him international critical acclaim and two Norwegian Grammy nominations.
His collaboration with Beatrice Dillon, producer of the new album, has brought a new dimension to his music. Dillon, a British electronic musician known for her minimalist and innovative style, has infused the tracks with a distinctly essential influence that is immediately perceptible and deeply felt.
Giske’s work stands out not only for its musical quality, but also for its ability to communicate complex emotions and create an intense connection with the audience. His music is a celebration of human vulnerability and strength, expressed through breath, rhythm and sound.
