ART on Sundays – Ortega and the Mexican Muralist Movement: Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros
11 October 2015 – 5.30pm
ART on Sundays is back with a new series of meetings on the history of art, this time looking at the “Casino” exhibition by Damián Ortega and Anselm Kiefer’s “The Seven Heavenly Palaces” permanent installation.
Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, the key exponents of the Muralist Movement in Mexico between the 1920s and the 1970s, influenced the early work of Damián Ortega when he was working as a political cartoonist. A journey that captures and illustrates the atmosphere and the ideals of an entire nation, examining the relationship between the Mexican Muralists and Ortega.
