ART on Sundays – Baroque and the Art of Illusion
24 May 2015 – 5.30pm
Juan Muñoz offers us a contemporary take on the spectacular effects and illusionism of the Baroque style. The Spanish artist is particularly fascinated by the architecture of Francesco Borromini and by the sculptural dynamism of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who shaped the art of the seventeenth century. The use of optical tricks, perspective illusions and trompe-l’oeil is an integral part of Juan Muñoz’s installations, astonishing the viewers and enveloping them in a fascinating, mysterious atmosphere.
