Pirelli HangarBicocca presents A CUPPA TEA WITH TRIM, a music performance held inside the Laure Prouvost’s exhibition “GDM – Grand Dad’s Visitor Center” as part of the Public Program | Laure Prouvost.
Conceived as a dialogue between the musician Trim and Laure Prouvost, the performance draws inspiration from Tea Song, a piece with lyrics by Prouvost and a melody by composer David Cunningham. This composition serves as the point of departure for a musical incursion into the show, where Trim, a founding member of the Roll Deep crew—exponents of grime, a gritty, underground musical genre that developed in London in the early 2000s—will improvise a dialogue with the works in the exhibition and with Prouvost herself.

In the kind of twist that is a hallmark of Prouvost’s work, A CUPPA TEA WITH TRIM links together two diametrically opposed cultural universes—the typically British, quintessentially middle class ritual of tea (already central in Wantee, the piece that won Prouvost the Turner Prize in 2013) and the language of urban countercultures.

Trim (aka Trimbal) is a grime MC from East London. After leaving the Roll Deep Crew in 2007, he has taken a path of experimenting different musical sides and standing as an artist on his own. This has led him into challenges such as starting his own collective and label (known as “Saom – Secluded Area Of Music”), releasing several mixtapes and EPs and collaborations with other musicians such as Skream, Mark Pritchard and, more recently, with James Blake who released Trim’s recent album “1800 Dinosaur presents Trim” on his own label.
