Who Am I? Who Are We?

"Born in the first light of the morning [moswara’marapo]" by Dineo Seshee Bopape

In her works, the artist Dineo Seshee Bopape tells her personal story, from the traditions and rituals of her community of origin to her travels across the world during her artistic training. At the same time, however, she also tells of the history of South Africa by writing down significant episodes from the past that have remained forgotten by collective memory.

Educational goals and activities

The students will examine the techniques and materials in the exhibition – from the use of natural elements such as earth and water to that of songs, films of landscapes, and written episodes from South African history – as well as the way in which the artist presents her biography.
Taking inspiration from all this, they will be asked to create an identity card of their own, made of elements that link them personally to the collective history of their contemporary world.
