Remember! Never Forget!

"Born in the first light of the morning [moswara’marapo]" by Dineo Seshee Bopape

Through the exhibition “Born in the first light of the morning [moswara’ marapo]”, the artist Dineo Seshee Bopape invites us to reflect on history and on collective and individual memory. She does so with immersive installations that she creates using elements of nature, with static and moving images that acquire an almost tactile form of three-dimensionality, and with sounds and songs that capture visitors in a time that is present but also truly ancient.

Educational goals and activities

A key part of the activity is that of inviting the children to focus on the idea of salvaging the memory of events that took place under apartheid and colonialism and in the history of South Africa, thus saving them from oblivion. These events have often been deliberately forgotten, but they are some of the fundamental themes around which much of the artist’s work revolves.
