Opposites Opposite (lower primary)
“NOw/here” by Gian Maria Tosatti
Introduction
Gian Maria Tosatti’s “NOw/here” exhibition, now on show at Pirelli HangarBicocca, brings together two new series of paintings – Ritratti [Portraits] (2022) and NOw/here (2023) – which epitomise the concepts that have inspired his artistic research for the past twenty years. The exhibition brings together the two series of large-format paintings, which interact closely with the architecture of the Shed, creating moments of dialogue and contrasting situations.

Educational aims and activities
While exploring the exhibition, the children will look for the materials, such as gold and rust, that the artist used to create his series of Portraits, and they will then be asked to find pairs of opposite elements such as above-below, light-shadow, and front-back, both in the works and in the exhibition space…
With the help of an illustrated book and a preparatory game, the children will create their own pairs of opposites, using materials that stimulate their sensory perceptions, with a particular focus on their sense of touch.
