In her Reincarnations of Shadows exhibition, Thao Nguyen Phan has chosen to include a series of works by Điềm Phùng Thị (1920-2002), an artist considered to be one of the greatest modernist Vietnamese sculptors. During her artistic career, Điềm defined seven abstract modules that can be assembled in an infinite number of combinations, which often recall figurative elements. Each element has its own particular shape, and each one is different but becomes complete only when placed in relation with the others. Phan also draws inspiration from the poetic vision of Điềm Phùng Thị, combining abstract and figurative elements in her works and making them intertwine in a fluid manner, creating new visual and narrative worlds.
After exploring the exhibition and taking inspiration from the works, the children will be able to find out for themselves how a few abstract shapes, when combined and repeated, can bring to life countless figures and compositions.
