Looking for Opposites (final year)
"Sunshine State" by Steve McQueen
Visit with workshop activities in the classroom
Educational objectives and activities
The children will explore the Sunshine State exhibition and find out how the artist Steve McQueen has played with all sorts of opposites when creating the works on display.
During the visit, the children will be asked to pick out the different types of opposites that can be seen in the works on display: black and white, silence and noise, and visible and invisible are just some of the pairs that Steve McQueen uses to create images that are made visually striking by these contrasts.
In the workshop session, the children will take inspiration from the works they have seen in the exhibition and they will try to see what pairs of opposites are part of their everyday life, making use of the various materials they will be given by the arts tutors.
