Liquid Loft is a collective founded in 2004 by Austrian choreographer Chris Haring, musician Andreas Berger, the playwright Thomas Jelinek, the dancer Stephanie Cumming and the conceptual artist Katherina Zakravsky. The working method followed by these artists is based on a particular type of improvisation, inspired by the continuous phase shifts between body and sound elements. Oriented dialogue between contemporary dance and other artistic languages, the group has collaborated with members of various disciplines (music, visual art, media art) including Erwin Wurm, Klaus Obermaier, Aldo Gianotti, Anja Krautgasser and Peter Rehberg. In the most important dance festivals internationally, Liquid Loft was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale Dance 2007 for Posing Project B/The Art of Seduction.
Posing Project A/The Art of Wow (2007) is the first piece of a trilogy of Posing Project B/The Art of Seduction (2007, Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale Dance) and Posing Project C/The Art of Garfunkel (2008). Posing the whole, the Project offers a comprehensive reflection on the mechanisms of seduction that exercise or suffer in our society and the cultural patterns that govern the communication. The pose is not the content but the method used in this work, which arise in between dance and installation, and represents the moment when the body of each of us turns into a recognizable image to the viewer. When the identity of the body in motion gives way to the expectations and constraints imposed by others, the installation becomes the place where you set the stereotypes of seduction. With a good dose of humor, Posing Project A/The Art of Wow is like we are in the world, the desire to impress others and the virtuosity needed to shape our personalities, exposing the instability of our subjective identities. There’s never a second chance to make a first impression. It’s all a matter of “wow”.
